Designing at 2× the slide size is the usual habit: text stays crisp when a slide is projected, and any rasterized element has pixels to spare.

What size should a Figma frame be for PowerPoint?

The short answer: 1920 × 1080. It is 16:9, which is what PowerPoint's default slide is, and it is large enough that anything rasterized during export still looks sharp on a projector or a 4K display.

The longer answer is that the ratio is what matters and the pixel count is a quality decision. PowerPoint stores a slide as 13.333 × 7.5 inches — 12,192,000 × 6,858,000 EMU — and everything on it is positioned in those integer units. When your frame is exported, its pixel coordinates are mapped into that space proportionally. A frame with the same ratio fills the slide edge to edge; a frame with a different ratio gets fitted, which is where unexpected margins come from.

This is also why "my deck came out blurry" is nearly always a design-size question rather than an export-quality question. Native text boxes and shapes are resolution-independent and will look perfect at any projection size. Anything that had to be rasterized — masks, blurs, conic gradients, complex vector art — is only as sharp as the frame it came from. Designing at 1920 × 1080 instead of 1280 × 720 gives those elements more than double the pixels.

Mixing ratios inside one deck is the other common trap. Each frame becomes its own slide, so a selection that mixes 16:9 and 4:3 produces a deck whose slides do not line up. Pick one ratio per export.

What size should a Figma frame be for PowerPoint?

For a widescreen deck, make the frame 16:9 — 1920 × 1080 px is the comfortable default, and 1280 × 720 px matches PowerPoint's 13.333 × 7.5 inch slide exactly at 96 DPI. Either works; what matters is the ratio, because the exporter fits your frame to the slide canvas.

What is an EMU?

An English Metric Unit — the integer unit PowerPoint stores every position and size in. There are exactly 914,400 EMU per inch (and 360,000 per centimetre). The number is chosen so inches, centimetres and points all divide into it without rounding, which is why the format uses it internally.

Does the frame size have to match the slide size exactly?

No. The exporter maps your frame onto the slide canvas proportionally, so a 3840 × 2160 frame and a 1280 × 720 frame both fill a 16:9 slide. Matching the aspect ratio is what prevents letterboxing; matching the pixel size is not required.

What happens if my frames have different ratios?

Each slide is built from its own frame, so a mixed-ratio selection produces a deck with inconsistent margins. Keep one ratio per deck.

Why is my exported deck slightly blurry on a big screen?

Because a rasterized element was rendered at the frame's pixel size and is being blown up. Design at 1920 × 1080 rather than 1280 × 720 if the deck will be projected, and keep as much as possible as native objects — those are resolution-independent.
